A new variety of greening plant Phedimus takesimens
Nice to meet you, I’m Ritsumasa Yamashita, a guests researcher at the Research Institute of Tokyo City University.
I study chemical mutations in plants and develop new plants.
In the case of the Phedimus takesimensis , which I am researching, I am trying to find the characteristics hidden in the genes, such as the growth limit of the plant, such as “it does not wither even at 50 degrees Celsius”. It grows over the years. ” Years without rain. “More than 1 month”, “Plant height changes”, “Flowers do not bloom” are possible at low cost and with high probability.
Experiments use ethyl ethane sulfonic acid (EMS), which is relatively safe.
Due to its low carcinogenicity, it has not been used in recent years, but it is an excellent mutagen that can increase the probability of occurrence by 1,000 to 5,000 times if properly treated. You can expect what kind of new species will appear.
In the experimental course, we used the heart of Phedimus takesimensis (Nakai), which is used for rooftop greening, as a theme. We are promoting the creation of new varieties that overcome the shortcomings of current varieties, have high weather resistance, do not require maintenance, and can grow independently on natural rainwater.
