13Sedum/Phedimus Mutation Lecture 2

We use Phedimus takesimens to introduce the changes that occur during the mutation process.

Phedimus takesimens is a drought-tolerant perennial that is attracting attention for rooftop greening, gardens, and civil engineering greening. Fedim mustakesimen, which is sold under the name ‘JouryokuKirinsou’, is famous.

In the experiment, the original strain of Phedimus takesimens is mutated by chemical mutagenesis to create a new usable strain.

When it comes to cloning albino strains resulting from chemical mutations, the biggest concern is whether they will take root.

Albino strains are incapable of photosynthesis and are thought to have low tolerance to weather such as ultraviolet light, cold and strong winds. Decide where the limits are and decide whether to clone or not

albino is

It is very beautiful and looks great. However, since it does not have chlorophyll and has low resistance to sunlight such as ultraviolet rays, it should be grown in the shade or indoors.

It is necessary to coexist with the original strain and grow it as a bicolor leaf strain.

In most cases, clonal gains in chimera-producing branches disappear between generations, or seasonal albino-chimera-primaries are often repeated.

突然変異の種類:キメラ

sweepmottledMutation is the most common mutation

It often disappears in the early stages, but in rare cases it may persist.

Long-term observation is required for remaining mottling

Outer plaques of Phedimus takesimens

There are relatively many spots on the exterior, but there are almost no obvious changes in color tone over time.

This strain exhibits long-term stable mutations.

As an actual mutation, the size of the leaves is larger than that of the original species, and the height of the plant is less than half.

I applied for seedling registration of “Shikisai No. 14”.

Shikisai No. 14

The next lecture, “Chemical Mutation Breeding Experimental Lecture” 3, will be about mutations in Phedimus takesimens.

We describe new cultivars with stable clones and successful experiments.
